The Academic Libraries Book Acquisition Systems Association (ALBASA) will hold its 42nd General Assembly and Book Fair on May 19-21 at The New White Gold House Restaurant, North Reclamation Area in Cebu City.

This three-day event centers on the theme “Assessment and Development of Librarians’ Professional Competencies towards ASEAN Integration” with a major objective of capacitating librarians with the necessary technical know-how to face the challenges of a globalized exchange of information in the ASEAN region.

To achieve this, ALBASA invited competent resource speakers: Professor Lourdes T David, a current member of the Professional Regulation Commission Board for Librarians (PRCBL); Prof Corazon Magday-Nera, director of libraries of the Lyceum of the Philippines University (also a former member of the PRCBL); Sharon Maria Esposo-Betan, head librarian of the University of the Philippines - College of Engineering Library who recently received the 2015 UP Gawad Tsanselor - Natatanging REPS; Jodelyn May G Seno, human resource executive and consultant for various companies; and John Louie T Zabala, 4th placer in the PRC Librarians Licensure Examination in 2012 and lecturer on Library and Information Science at the University of San Jose - Recoletos.

ALBASA is a Cebu-based non-stock, non-profit organization of academic libraries with more than 80 member institutions from Visayas and Mindanao.

ALBASA is under the leadership of the current board of trustees composed of Emeline C Baco from Cebu Doctors’ University as the president, Estrella C Cabudoy from Xavier University as vice president, Fretzie Alfaro Fajardo of Ateneo de Davao University as secretary, Cheryl Wong of the University of San Jose - Recoletos as treasurer, Jonas M Arnibal of St Theresa’s College - Cebu as auditor and Leilah Lyn R Valenzona as business manager.

Local and foreign publishing companies will be participating in the book fair, displaying varied collections and formats of reading materials.

Interested librarians, faculty members, school administrators, students and book lovers are welcome to join in this celebration.
