Xavier University – Governance and Leadership Institute (XU-GLI) held a trainers’ training on barangay governance on April 30 - May 1 at XU-AVR 8.

Following the framework on quality local legislation, the training included modules on the introduction to local legislation, refreshers on law-making and parliamentary procedure, dialogue in committee hearing and meeting, the role of social media in local legislation, and sustainable policy implementation.

The participants of the training were members of the Alliance for the Empowerment of Barangay Kagawads (ALEBKA), an association of barangay councilors of Cagayan de Oro City.

“We especially thank XU-GLI and director Dr Dixon Yasay for the opportunity to equip the barangay councilors with the things we need to know to better serve the people,” said Kieth G Paasa, a kagawad of Barangay 13 and ALEBKA-CDO chairman.

GLI’s engagement at the barangay level is part of XU’s theme on governance under the Research and Social Outreach (RSO) cluster.
