Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan was recognized for its growing contributions to research, innovation, and national development after receiving two awards during the 16th Anniversary Celebration of the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) held on 29 June 2026 at the Fairmont Makati.

With the theme, "Emerging Technologies for a Future-Ready Philippines: Driving Innovation, Enabling Progress, and Transforming the Nation," the celebration gathered leaders from government, academia, industry, and the research community to showcase emerging technologies and honor institutions and individuals whose work has advanced the country's science, technology, and innovation landscape.

Among the highlights of the event was the Kabalikat Awards, which recognize institutions and partners for their commitment and invaluable support to DOST-PCIEERD's research and development initiatives. Xavier University received the Kabalikat Newbie Institution Award, affirming the University's growing partnership with DOST-PCIEERD in advancing research and innovation. The award was received by Engr Edwin Richard R Ortiz and Dr Shierlyn S Paclijan on behalf of XU President Fr Mars P Tan, SJ, PhD.

during the DOST-PCIEERD 16th Anniversary Celebration

The University's "Establishment of a Green Biohydrogen to Energy (Green Bio-H2E) Research and Development Laboratory in Northern Mindanao" project was likewise recognized with the Excellence in Project Implementation and Completion (EPIC) Award. The distinction recognizes DOST-PCIEERD-funded projects that demonstrate exemplary implementation and successful completion while delivering meaningful contributions to research and innovation.

The EPIC Award was received by Dr Shierlyn S Paclijan, Project Leader of the Green Bio-H2E Laboratory, together with Engr Duane Jiovani Moriss B Ombiga, Project Technical Assistant.

Receiving both the Kabalikat and EPIC Awards reflects Xavier University's commitment to fostering a culture of research excellence, innovation and collaboration. These recognitions highlight the University's continuing efforts to develop technologies, strengthen research capabilities, and contribute solutions that address national priorities and promote sustainable development.
