The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation unveiled today the ten names of Xavier University students awarded with a full scholarship grant beginning second semester of this academic year.

In a letter to XU’s Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid (OSFA) director Glenda Orlanes, NCAF program director John Paulo C Reyes said that with this undertaking the foundation is “hoping that our NCAF scholars will be more inspired to strive for magis (going beyond excellence).”

XU and NCAF laud the ten NCAF scholars who will embody the legacy of the two revered public figures in Philippine history:

Abayle, Pamela Faye (BSEd-IV)
Amontos, Meshullmeth (BSEd-I)
Buray, Jomar (BSEd-II)
Enaje, Therese Joy (BSEd-I)
Fabe, Nneka (BSEd-II)
Legera, Mie Ann (ABEco-III)
Maghilum, Rachel (BSEd-II)
Onting, Mary Gretel (BSEd-III)
Roa, Kim Thomas (ABEco-III)
Ruanza, Hildyn (ABPhilo-II)

The scholarship grant covers full tuition, matriculation and other school fees. The scholars are also entitled to participate in the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey, and other NCAF formation and mentoring sessions.

The scholars were selected based on scholastic achievement in the priority courses of NCAF, namely, BS in Public Administration (or similar courses, such as Economics and Philosophy) and Education; leadership qualities; and financial capability.

The memorandum of agreement was formally signed on September 30 and the screening interviews were held on October 7 at the conference room of OSFA.

“We would like to encourage the youth to go into public service,” said Victoria Elisa "Viel" Aquino-Dee, the fourth daughter of Ninoy and Cory during a courtesy call to XU President Fr Roberto C Yap SJ. “So we decided to get scholars from courses in public administration, economics and education.”

In turn, Fr Yap said, “We are very grateful that the foundation has chosen Xavier for this scholarship program. This is a great opportunity for our scholars.”

For NCAF, the scholarship grant is a concrete and meaningful way of spreading the legacy of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr and spouse late President Corazon “Cory” Aquino of forming our Filipino youth to be good and honest servant-leaders.

“Today, NCAF seeks to build on the legacy of Ninoy and Cory by supporting activities that embody the spirit of People Power as a strong and positive force for social change in a robust democracy.”
