GLI and SEARSOLIN participate in the national symposium of the Health Leadership and Governance Program.

By Wilson J Hormeguera

The Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI) and Southeast Asia Rural Social Leadership Institute (SEARSOLIN) participated in the national symposium of academic institutions that implement the Health Leadership and Governance Program (HLGP) of the Department of Health (DOH) and Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) on October 21-23 at Heritage Hotel, Pasay City.

The academic institutions gathered to share gains, best practices, and remaining challenges in HLGP implementation among DOH regional offices and academic partners across the regions. The participants also engaged in a brief lecture-workshop on results-based program mapping, an analysis strategy to help guide program managers in achieving their desired health outcomes. There was also an updating of ZFF’s engagement with the academic partners.

HLGP is a strategic initiative targeting different stakeholders in the health sector, such as DOH regional offices, municipal health officers, and local chief executives, to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to institutionalize health programs and attain health targets.

HLGP is implemented in 609 municipalities and cities identified as priority by the National Anti-Poverty Commission.

Xavier University, through GLI and SEARSOLIN, handles the training sessions in HLGP, particularly for municipal health officers and local chief executives, using the Bridging Leadership Framework that highlights collaboration between the local government and its constituents. Under the program, XU has trained 53 LGUs in the first module, 28 LGUs in the second module and graduated 16 LGUs in Region 10.
