The National Service Training Program (NSTP) of Xavier University is set to establish peace corners in 16 partner schools as part of the program of the Department of Education.

On December 4 last year, XU put up a peace corner at Bulua Central School (BCS), marking it as the first of 16 schools.

DepEd program specialist Romeo B Aclo, BCS principals Duque Caguindangan and Naomi Tocmohan, XU Peace Center coordinator Engr Gail de la Rita, Agusan Elementary School principal Mel L Tuba, Iponan Elementary School teacher Cherie Lou P Lanzaderas, among others witnessed the launching ceremony.

The establishment of peace corners forms part of the peace-building efforts of XU NSTP.

These spaces serve as venues for the schoolchildren, teachers and other personnel to encourage basic peace studies and instill the values of peace and synergy among the children.

Books, toys, coloring and drawing materials are provided in the peace corner.

Caguindingan shared that the establishment of the peace corner at their school is a manifestation that “peace is a work of education which requires genuine commitment that will lead to lasting peace all over the country.”
