Team building initiatives facilitate better communication among members in an organization, improve relationships and, in turn, enhance quality of work. It also motivates members – the more comfortable they are to express their ideas and opinions, the more confident they will become. Further, team building promotes creativity, develops problem-solving skills, and breaks barriers.
The Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI) of Xavier University guided the officers of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) Misamis Oriental-Cagayan de Oro City Chapter during their team building and strategic planning workshop on January 10.
Facilitated by GLI director Dr Dixon Yasay, the workshop was an engaging avenue for the participants to share comfortably their organizational and life experiences, as part of their personal and organizational values check.
The activity followed the Five Disciplines of Learning Organization: personal mastery, mental models, shared vision, team learning and systems thinking.
“Consultants produce their ideas from the experiences and stories of other people, turning them into a concept. With the understanding and practice of the Five Disciplines, in relation to your organizational and life experiences, we shall produce something great,” Yasay told the participants.
“This day is not for compliance sake. This day is about purpose,” he added.
Rooted from their personal and organizational values, PICE participants were able to come up with their revised chapter vision, mission, and key result areas of engagement which their team will give consideration and focus this year.
