Congratulations to our young math wizards and their coaches!


Xavier University Grade School stood out in the Division Team Finals of the 2016 Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Challenge held on Feb 4 at Corpus Christi School in Pueblo.

Xavier University ranked in all grade levels of the Team Competition, which was participated in by about 20 schools in the city. The Challenge involved solving complex mathematical problems using either mental, or pen and paper calculations.

Rey Stephen Chua and Ysabela Gabrielle Catarman placed 1st in the Grade Four Team Competition.  

Rex Daniel Peruelo and Neil Ivan Cutob, along with Kristoff John Padilla and Rainier Josef Ahalajal landed in 2nd place in the Grade Three and Grade Six Team Competitions, respectively.

Coming in at 5th place were Eman Athan Occo and Keanne Pierce Garcia in the Grade One Team Competition, and Sean Andre Dizon and Ma Francesca Saga in the Grade Five Team Competition.

Kriztine Estillore and Sean Valdez ranked 6th in the Grade Two Team Competition.

Moreover, Kristoff John F Padilla ranked number one among all Grade Six participants in the Individual Written Category. He will represent Cagayan de Oro City in the Regional Individual Finals on Feb 19.

The annual math challenge seeks to improve the quality of Mathematics education in the country. It is organized by the Metrobank Foundation Inc, the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP), and the Department of Education (DepEd).
