A poor town with people desperate for change is the setting of The Xavier Stage’s (TXS) newest play, “Pinatay si Mayor.”

Written by renowned playwright Rody Vera, “Pinatay si Mayor” is a musical satire about the townspeople of Talon Pikit who, tired of the crooked leadership of their mayor, decide to unite and vote for an uncanny candidate – a pig! The animal wins but is brutally murdered before it could assume office.

Fun and laughter ensue as the townsfolk investigate who killed their newly-elected mayor. XU student Muriel Lomadilla stars convincingly as Vangie Palaban, the town’s corrupt ex-mayor and principal suspect in the murder.

The play caps TXS’s fifth theater season on advocacy theater.

Although hilarious, the play brought to bear everyone’s responsibility to choose the right candidates as elections draw near. So while audiences laughed their way through the almost two-hour show, they were quick to get the point of the play: become vigilant and responsible voters.

TXS’s “Pinatay Si Mayor” runs until Feb 27 at the Little Theater.  For tickets, please call 858-3116 local 2059.
