MEDICAL FACULTY ENDOWMENT. The members of Vamenta family, led by Cipriano Vamenta III, and the Xavier University stakeholders, frontlined by president Fr Roberto C Yap SJ, take a pose after the MOA signing creating the Cipriano Vamenta Sr Medical Faculty Endowment Fund.
Xavier University and the Vamenta family recently inked a memorandum of agreement establishing the Cipriano Vamenta Sr Medical Faculty Endowment Fund (CVSMFEF) for deserving faculty members to pursue higher education in the medical field.
The endowment fund worth one million pesos aims to develop and strengthen the quality of instruction and research of XU’s Dr Jose P Rizal School of Medicine (JPRSM).
Represented by US-based Dr Cipriano Vamenta III, CVSMFEF “recognizes its social obligation to assist the communities in which it is located to progress and attain a quality of life commensurate with man’s dignity.”
Dr Vamenta said this endowment is also a way of "paying the university forward being a high school alumnus (Batch 1958) and scholar of Xavier."
The Vamenta family chose to put up the endowment fund at XU for its “long and distinguished history of devoted and intelligent service to the people of Mindanao as the most developed educational institution in Misamis Oriental.”
JPRSM faculty members can apply for the said program through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, following the guidelines below:
a. The applicant must have served for at least five years or as administrator of JPRSM.
b. The faculty member must be willing to serve JPRSM upon completion of his/her program.
c. The faculty recipients will be awarded their grants until they finish, provided they maintain the requirement for continuation of the grants.
The recipients of the program can choose to pursue higher medical studies in the country or abroad.
The endowment fund was named after Don Cipriano “Olong” Vamenta Sr, a former mayor of Cagayan de Oro City, from 1906 to 1908.
