As part of the initiatives of Xavier University’s National Service Training Program (NSTP), the contents of the Generosity Boxes from Our Common Home were distributed recently to the students from different high schools across Cagayan de Oro City.

Students from the five national high schools gladly received the gifts through this project involving different units and offices from XU’s basic education to tertiary levels.

Thirty-eight boxes were filled with hygiene products (shampoo, hairbrush, bathing soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitary napkin, laundry detergent, socks, face towels, deodorant and rubbing alcohol), packs of chocolate drink and ballpens. The recipients of the generosity boxes were ten students from the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, five students from Bulua NHS, five students from Iponan NHS, seven students from Lumbia NHS and 11 students from Cagayan de Oro NHS.

According to XU-NSTP head Dennise Edwina Gonzales each box has more than a thousand pesos worth of items, provided for by the personnel of different XU offices.

“The people were just willing to give when they knew that the boxes were for students in need. Their generosity flowed out freely,” Gonzales said. “The employees know that XU has been their home for many years and they want others to be part of it.”

Gonzales hopes that this endeavor becomes an annual project as part of the XU Festival Days celebration every December.
