Strengthening participation of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in local governance was the main goal of the training-workshop organized by XU’s Governance and Leadership Institute, in partnership with De La Salle University – Jesse Robredo Institute of Governance (DLSU-JRIG), SEAOIL Foundation, and GROUP Foundation.

CSOs from Cagayan de Oro City and Alubijid, Misamis Oriental comprised the two batches of participants to the training-workshop that focused on strengthening the capacity and deepening the engagement of local CSOs participating in the Bottom-up Budgeting (BuB) program particularly in BuB Project Monitoring and Evaluation.

Topics included understanding the roles of CSOs in local governance, local legislation, and local budgeting; review of the BuB process and its monitoring and evaluation systems; and introduction to micro-entreprise development for CSOs.

“If the CSOs want to deepen their engagements with the local government, then they must involve in BuB.  Our role is to strengthen CSO capacities in their BuB involvement, thus eventually help the locality.” said Jess Lorenzo, Executive Director of SEAOIL Foundation.

Participating CSOs were able to produce local action plans for sustaining the demand for BuB projects in their communities.
