Legislators and legislative staff from different local government units (LGUs) in Mindanao gathered at a training course dubbed “Local Legislative Enhancement: Creating Greater Public Value through Effective Local Legislation” conducted by the Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI) of Xavier University from September 15 to 16.

The participants of the said course came from the LGUs of Esperanza of Agusan del Sur; Baganga, Banaybanay, and Caraga of Davao Oriental; General Santos City and Koronadal City of South Cotabato; Santo Tomas of Davao del Norte; Santa Cruz of Davao del Sur; Surigao City of Surigao del Norte; and Cagayan de Oro City.

The training course covered topics on local legislation and agenda making by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Bukidnon provincial director Bruce Colao; legislative tracking by Sangguniang Bayan - Lugait secretary Cedric Dayta; ordinance making by CDO councilor Ian Mark Nacaya; local budgeting by CDO tourism and cultural officer Elmer Wabe; parliamentary procedure by DILG-Region 10 director Foster Anayron; and social marketing by XU Development Communication professor Evans Yonson. ∎
