Leaders of different electric cooperatives in Northern Mindanao drew together at a seminar on good governance conducted by the Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI) of Xavier University and organized by the Northern Mindanao Electric Cooperative Association (Normeca) from October 3 to 4 in Cagayan de Oro City.

The seminar was anchored on the three pillars of good governance: participation, transparency, and accountability.

In his discussion, GLI director Dr Dixon Yasay, who served as the main resource speaker, said that these pillars of leadership must emanate from the vision and determination of the cooperative leaders to realize their goals for the community.

The participants of the said seminar were the board members and general managers of Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative (BUSECO), Camiguin Electric Cooperative (CAMECO), First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative (FIBECO), Lanao del Norte Electric Cooperative (LANECO), Misamis Occidental Electric Cooperative Inc (MOELCI) 1 and 2, Misamis Oriental Rural Electric Service Cooperative (MORESCO) 1 and 2.

Opol Vice Mayor Tatchie Ortigoza and CdeO City consultant Churchill Aguilar also shared on best practices and challenges in local governance during the event.

GLI aims to build the capacities of local leaders from the public and private sectors of Northern Mindanao towards an efficient, sustainable, and inclusive governance and development. ∎
