Students taking psychological assessment class at Xavier University wrapped up their scale development studies through their poster presentations in October. The juniors of the XU Psychology community led the activity, aimed at popularizing psychology to the public.

Psychological Assessment I is a course that equips Psychology students with skills to develop a psychometrically sound scale, with personality test as its focus.

The presentation of the various scales was indicative of both their hard work and patience, which also forms part of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) that the XU Psychology Department has been practicing.

OBE defines the results that students are expected to produce by the end of the course as it aims to provide higher learning for students.

Different groups presented their findings on the posters presented to the public along the Student Entrepreneurship Center (SEC) walkway during the Psychology Students’ Fair.

The studies revolved around the major constructs in motivation, autonomous morality, self-actualization, faith in God, and contentment.

Anonymous evaluators were tasked to judge the study posters and presentations of the Psychology juniors. The evaluators blended in with the crowd so the Psych juniors had to answer all questions thrown at them during the fair, testing how well they knew their studies.

The evaluators subsequently picked the top 3 construct models. The results were publicly announced during the closing program.

“The Measure on Contentment among Teenage Millennials in Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan” by students Ares, Brioso, Nacague, and Vidal took home the first place.

“Measure on Social Well-Being” by Borres, Cequina, Yap, Naling, and Luzano garnered the second prize.

“Scale Construction and Development of Internet in Learning Measure” by Dela Cruz, Dungog, Gaite, and Mabalacad ranked third.

Psychology faculty members Jhoanna Marie Mocorro and Marnee Manalang served as the mentors of the junior students. ∎
