Dr Dixon Yasay, director of the Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI) of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan, served as the resource person at a seminar-workshop on the “Governance of Restoration” held from December 6 to 8 for the government officials of the municipalities of Talacogon in Agusan del Sur and Maragusan in Compostela Valley.
Sessions included the review of the functions and powers of the Barangay Government, review of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (BDRRM) plan and its projects and activities, and the introduction to the Governance of Restoring Forests Landscape.
The said event was participated in by barangay officials, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers (MNERO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDDRMO), and Sangguniang Bayan members from the two municipalities.
Yasay highlighted the utmost accountability of the local government in restoring and managing forests ecosystem in order to minimize the horrendous effect of flooding and disasters.
This formed part of the Proud of My Purok (POMP) Project initiated by The Red Cross Netherlands, Wetlands International, Care Netherlands, Care Philippines, Assistance and Cooperation for Community Resilience and Development (ACCORD), Philippine Red Cross, and Xavier Science Foundation. ∎
