Xavier University Grade School (XUGS) pupils emerged as big winners during the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Carmen Valley’s "War of the Wits" on January 14 at the Capitol University gymnasium.
Ninety-three pupils from 31 schools participated in the elimination round. However, only the top 15 schools qualified for the grand finals.
In the quiz bowl, XUGS-Pueblo pupils Rey Stephen Chua, Errol Anthony Jano, and Thessaly Concesa Vasallo won the championship. Coaches Maryjean Jano, Mary Ann Yañez, and Corazon Vasallo stood proud of the team's accomplishment.
Jano also got the highest score in the written quiz of the elimination round.
In the poster-making contest, Timothy John Soriano and Trisha Nicole Maglacion of XUGS-Macasandig reaped the top prize while Al Emmanuel Edyesca and Yna Loraine Perez of XUGS-Pueblo ranked sixth. Aquiles Bacallan served as coach of the XUGS-Macasandig duo while Ma Concepcion Llamis mentored the XUGS-Pueblo poster-making contestants. ∎
