Junior psychology students of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan held their Psychology Research Summit on March 15 at the XU Little Theater, a whole-day culminating activity that featured case studies in Developmental Psychology and Theories of Personality, Service Learning Program in their Clinical Psychology, and HRD Engagement in Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

The said research summit served as an avenue for students to present their outputs to the public and draw lessons from the research findings.

Psychology Department chairman Jason O Manaois opened the event with a message to the students who attended the said event. In his message, he shared three important points:

First, communicate. He said that an undergraduate research presentation allows the students to present their output to a wider audience, and that it is a way of moving beyond the traditional approach of presenting researches to a selected audience only. He said that the bigger the audience that it reaches the better.

His second point was relevance. Doing research is a way of contributing to the public by giving relevant information and knowledge, and forstering understanding about certain phenomena that our society faces.

Third, inspire. He noted that this culminating activity encapsulated the students' hard work over the last semester. He congratulated the young researchers for coming up with inspiring research papers.

“May the output presented today would inhibit others to do Magis, to do more with your academic performance for you to be able to communicate and find your relevant contribution to the society. So to all of us here, we are taking the step of making XU psychology as a relevant degree and an important profession in our country,” Manaois said as his parting message.

Six outputs were presented in the morning, while seven papers were presented in the afternoon.
Each presenter was given 15 minutes to discuss their output. Questions were entertained after the last research was presented, during the open forum session. The event concluded with the awarding of certificates to the researchers. ∎
