Infractions to school policies and norms of conduct have been some of the major issues faced by the senior high schools’ administrators since the implementation of the K-12 program in the country.
Violations that can no longer be properly handled, settled, and resolved by the prefect of students such as sexual harassment, bullying, dishonesty, grave misconduct, and other analogous cases are now within the ambit of the XU Senior High School Disciplinary Committee.
On July 19, the SHS administration of Xavier Ateneo created and appointed the members of the disciplinary committee.
Held at the school’s Loyola conference room, the first meeting and training was participated in by the following: Eric Rudinas, XU-SHS prefect of students, also the first speaker who shared on the rationale of the disciplinary action; Ivanell Subrabas, director of student affairs, who discussed the legal framework, requirements, and transformative strategies of the university; and Dr Lorie Ann P Moreno from the School of Education who facilitated the workshop on handling major disciplinary cases in the campus.
In the conduct of investigations, the procedures laid down by the SHS Student Handbook 2017 must be strictly observed so as to ensure fairness and impartiality.
The said committee is also empowered to formulate, legislate, and implement rules and regulations that will guarantee transformation as a corrective measure to erring students.
The establishment of the Disciplinary Committee is the first of its kind in the history of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan Senior High School.∎
