Through pictures and words, we tell the story of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan. This narrative of 75+ years celebrates the academic life and community spirit, the times and challenges that have shaped Xavier over the years. In our telling of this story, we remember with gratitude all those who came to form and be formed while here at Xavier. We honor the men and women who devoted their lives to this mission, teaching us in countless ways “to prepare for sacrifice” and to offer our lives “for God and country.”
This story has been compiled from various sources, the most significant of which was Fr Miguel A Bernad’s “Significant Dates,” a chronicle of milestones in the life of the University. Another source was the gathered input from faculty members, students and alumni who drew variously from memorabilia, brochures, yearbooks, Xavier University studies, official documents, and the like to portray a meaningful arc of the life and growth of the University.
In faith, we hold these events not to be merely accidental or without purpose. We believe Xavier University to be more than just a school. It is also a place in which God moves and inspires and calls us.
We are humbled to be part of this Ignatian tradition and noble enterprise. In sharing our story with you, we invite you to rejoice with us. By the grace of God, we have never stopped learning how to love and serve. And by the love of God, we shall continue to give “our hands in help, our hearts in love, and our lives that other men might live.” This is the truth of our hope and very desire.
Veritas liberabit vos.
