Rationale
The Coastal and Underwater Cleanup is an annual activity of the McKeough Marine Center (MMC) and Macajalar Bay Development Alliance (MBDA) held every third Saturday of September in celebration of the International Coastal Cleanup Day.
Coastal cleanup is done to encourage cleanliness in the coasts and seas, and to educate the community about the importance of trash-free seas. Data gathered from this activity will assist MMC and MBDA and other stakeholders in policy-making and development of Information Education Campaign (IEC) materials to address the global problem on Marine debris.
Objectives
To organize bay-wide simultaneous coastal cleanup by inviting LGUs up to the barangay level, as well as NGAs in CDO to conduct coastal cleanup in their area; conduct our own coastal cleanup at the Xavier University Marine Station, Jasaan
Expected Results
Increased awareness in coastal and marine pollution and behavioral change of stakeholders with regards to solid waste management
